About the Farm

Crooked Brook Farm in Wells is Ryan Liberty and Colleen Bovaird's long game. They bought the Meetinghouse Road property in 2014, planted about 250 seedlings, and kept planting until they had 4,000 balsam firs; the choose-and-cut operation opened for its first Christmas in 2023.

They grow exclusively the Maine Christmas Tree Association strain of balsam fir, keep the fields free of herbicides and pesticides, and basal prune every tree. Beehives arrived in 2017 and supply honey, with commercial maple syrup production planned next.
