About the Farm
Josh Girard took a winding road to farming in Waterboro: an engineering degree from Boston University, aquaculture work with the Peace Corps in Zambia, then apprenticeships at Frith Farm and seasons at Black Kettle, Two Farmers, and Neversink before founding Girard Farm in 2015 in the town next to where he grew up. He also helps run the Saco Farmers' Market.
The farm grows seasonal vegetables that are USDA-certified organic, MOFGA-certified, and part of the Real Organic Project, sold through CSA shares, a farm stand, and farmers' markets. Pastured hens supply eggs, there are egg and dairy share options, and the stand carries local maple syrup, honey, pork, beef, hummus, yogurt, cheese, and skyr from nearby producers.
