About the Farm
Mook Sea Farm has been growing oysters on the Damariscotta River since 1985, when Bill Mook turned an environmental sciences background into one of Maine's foundational oyster operations, based in Walpole.
The farm raises Eastern oysters from egg to adult, and its hatchery produces over 120 million juvenile oysters a year for growers from North Carolina to Maine as well as for its own Moondancers and Mookie Blues. The growing is hands-on: OysterGro cages flipped and air-dried to control fouling, oysters graded and thinned for shape, cages sunk below winter ice and hauled up each spring.
