Nezinscot Farm in Turner has been in the Varney family for generations. Gregg and Gloria Varney bought it from Gregg's parents in 1987 and went on to make it the first organic dairy in the state of Maine. Their five children grew up milking cows and goats, collecting eggs, and helping with harvests, and the farm still runs on that kind of daily family work.

What makes Nezinscot worth the drive is everything built around the barn: a gourmet food shop, cafe and bakery, a fromagerie, a charcuterie, and even a yarn and fiber studio. You can fill a basket with farm-raised beef, pork, and chicken, their own dairy and cheese, eggs, vegetables, and a bakery case of breads, doughnuts, croissants, whoopie pies, and quiche.
