Spear's Farmstand & Markets started in 1933 when Wallace and Maude Spear moved to Nobleboro to live off the land. Six generations later, the family operation covers more than 600 acres of midcoast Maine with retail stands in Waldoboro and Nobleboro.
Over 250 acres grow mixed vegetables: sweet corn, beans, cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, onions, lettuce, winter squash, and pumpkins, with seedlings started in February and a dozen hoop houses stretching the season. Around 90 beef cattle supply their All-Natural beef, and a processing facility built in 2009 with washing stations and dual walk-in coolers keeps everything fresh from field to stand.
