Darthia Farm has been farming the Downeast coast with draft horses since Cynthia and Bill Thayer started it in 1976, and it has held MOFGA organic certification since 1978, making it one of the longest-certified farms in Maine. In 2016 the next generation arrived: Shepsi, Liz, and their children Harbor and Cedar.
The farm's 250 acres take in recaptured pasture, hay land, gardens, and a selectively managed woodlot. Vegetables and flowers go out through the farm store and a CSA, onto restaurant menus, and to the local food pantry, where the Thayers drop fresh produce every week.
