Maple Syrup
Dunn Family Maple in Buxton runs on family in every direction: Scott and Erin Dunn, their daughters Bridget and Brooke, the dog Brix, and a maple lineage tracing back to Scott's great-grandfather in Vermont. They boiled their first Buxton syrup in 2014 with 120 taps and a used G.H. Grimm evaporator.
The operation has grown up around that wood-fired rig, adding tubing, vacuum, reverse osmosis, and stainless tanks; by 2020 they were drawing 26,800 gallons of sap from about 1,563 taps and finishing 345 gallons of syrup. The product list is pure fun: syrup in specialty bottles, maple cream, sugar, candies, maple-coated nuts, pancake mix, whoopie pies, and gift crates.
