Harris Farm covers 600 acres in Dayton and four generations of one family. John "Papa" Harris bought the original 100-acre dairy in 1944; his son Bill added a 25-mile cross-country ski operation in 1987; Clint took over the cows in 1990 and started bottling milk in glass in 1996; and Jake now manages the dairy and beef herds. The cows are still milked twice a day in a renovated 19th-century barn and graze on rotation all season.

The farm store is a destination in itself: glass-bottled milk in skim, 2%, and whole, flavored milks from chocolate to blueberry, homemade butter, yogurt, ice cream, and cheeses, plus grass-fed beef, free-range veal, local bacon and sausage, eggs, and summer vegetables led by sweet corn. Turkey pot pies, soups, honey, jams, pickles, and maple syrup fill in the rest of the pantry.
