Second Frost Farm sits on a hillside in Monroe, about 10 miles from downtown Belfast, where Noami Brautigam and James Gagne are heading into their eleventh season. They grow one acre of MOFGA Certified Organic field vegetables, and with four unheated high tunnels and two caterpillar tunnels they keep harvesting straight through the winter.
They're also fermenters, turning cabbage into a rotating variety of sauerkrauts. Members pick up weekly CSA harvests farm-stand style in the wash/pack barn, and the rest goes to local farmers' markets.
