Maple Syrup
Honey
Harry and Debi Hartford are retired educators who turned inherited family land in West Newfield into Thurston and Peters Sugarhouse, named for Adelbert Thurston and Nelson and Nellie Peters, the relatives who passed the property down. Harry taught meteorology; Debi grew up on a Vermont dairy farm and taught Family and Consumer Science. They boiled their first syrup here in March 2007.
The operation has grown from an outdoor evaporator to a heated sugarhouse running reverse osmosis and an oil-fired Delaire evaporator. Syrup comes in everything from 3.4-ounce jugs to gallons and a range of glass bottles, alongside honey, jams, maple candy, and maple cream. Tours are free year-round, and they ship.
