Waukeag Neck Oyster Company farms Frenchman Bay off Sorrento, between Ingalls and Bean Island, where deep, cold Atlantic water trades places with the warmer bay on every tide and gives the oysters their distinct flavor. Jock Crothers started it as a small experiment in 2012; Graham Platner, born and raised in Sullivan, took over operations in 2019, working the gear alongside Rob Cushman.
The small-scale farm handles its oysters largely by hand, selling locally Downeast during the May-to-October season, shucking for private events, and supplying Ironbound Restaurant, Blue Hill Wine Shop, and Dunbar's Fresh Market.
