About the Farm

Welch Farm has grown wild blueberries on the shores of Englishman Bay in Roque Bluffs for six generations. The land began as the Thompson Homestead in the late 1700s, Frank and Mary Welch bought it in 1912, and Wayne Hanscom now manages it with his daughter Lisa.

For decades the crop went straight to processors; over the past ten years the family has claimed it back, hand-raking the low bush berries at peak ripeness, cooling them, cleaning them on a fresh berry line, and packing pints, quarts, and 5-pound boxes, with some fresh-frozen within 24 hours of leaving the field.
