Kyle and Kristi met at the University of Maine at Fort Kent in 2011, farmed their way across the country, and came home to buy 86 acres in Troy in 2017, on the edge of Carlton Pond Preserve. Kyle grew up on a central Maine family farm and studied plant ecology and sustainable food systems; Kristi trained as a nurse. Their two daughters are growing up in the fields.
Wild Edge Farm specializes in storage and root crops, though the full list covers nearly everything: carrots, beets, cabbage, potatoes and fingerlings, garlic, onions, corn, melons, tomatoes, squash, greens, and herbs. They farm with minimum tillage, crop rotation, and cover cropping, run a farmstand Fridays and Saturdays June through October, and in 2023 built a barn housing a wash-and-pack station and cold storage.
